Sometimes in a rare, fleeting moment on a rainy day in Port of Spain, you can be in the right place at the right time and the city looks like somewhere else. It becomes a blue, green and grey place — still with its hard edges and unyielding buildings, but somehow soft. In these moments the rain forces you to pause and really look at the city. It allows you to see a couple sheltering together under one umbrella or a man eating lunch in his car, bobbing his head to the music, his own time out in the middle of a busy day. It allows you to see the streets quiet and empty of bodies. In those moments if you pause long enough and look at it in just the right way, suddenly, unexpectedly, the rain shows you that Port of Spain is beautiful.
